About York

Once Englands second city, York today is a living symbol of English history, famous for its Minster, City walls and museums. Yet throughout the winding mediaeval streets are unique and stylish shops, an excellent theatre and an abundance of restaurants, cafes, bars and traditional pubs to suit every taste.

The city is close to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, including the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, the bracing beaches and cliffs on the Yorkshire coast of place like Robin Hoods bay and Whitby and wonderful old Abbeys and stately homes.

You can also easily reach more great shopping in Leeds (including Harvey Nichols) and bargains at the York Designer Outlet just outside the city, a day trip to Harrogate, the amazing Yorkshire Sculpture Park at West Bretton, the brand new Hepworth art gallery at Wakefield. And don't forget a glamorous day out at the races at the regular York race meetings.
